Tanzania Iyenga

Stories of great coffee are often stories of human connection. Nowhere is this more beautifully evident than in the Southern Highlands of Tanzanias Songwe region, near the small town of Iyenga. Here smallholder farmers from AMCOS (agricultural marketing cooperative societies) to support one another in an entirely communal approach to coffee cultivation. In this arid, high-elevation setting, speed and efficiency are of utmost importance; fresh coffee cherries must be transported quickly to washing stations to ensure high quality, so trucks and motorbikes wait nearby to move cherries within eight hours of picking. The result is a cup that shines brightly with clean citrus character while reminding us of the power of community.
